Repeat Prescriptions

Important changes for ordering your medication

Our prescription team are joining our PCN (Primary Care Network) Prescription HUB based within Brooklea.

We are asking that patients use online services to order medication. This can be done using the NHS App, Patient Access or by emailing bnssg.connexus.prescribing@nhs.net, ensuring that you include the practice name, your name and date of birth.

Due to patient safety we do not accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions due to the possibility of confusion or mistakes.

Any prescription queries or if your prescription is not at the pharmacy after 5 working days please email bnssg.connexus.prescribing@nhs.net

The surgery will now be working on a 5 working day turn around. Working days are Mon-Fri (not including bank holidays). Where possible all prescriptions will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy.

If you take regular medication, you will be given a computer printed list (order slip) of all your medications which will enable you to obtain prescriptions without a surgery appointment.

To obtain your repeat prescription, post or bring your order slip into reception, having ticked which items you require.

Alternatively you can register to use our online service and order via the link at the top of this page. Click here for more information.

You can nominate a chemist to collect your prescription from the clinic and have the medication ready for collection by yourself. The clinic does not undertake delivery of medications.

If you would like your prescription sent to you, please enclose a stamped address envelope with your request.

We do not accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions due to the possibility of confusion and mistakes.  Repeat prescriptions cannot be collected from Riverside surgery.

Please allow five full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication may be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

When will my prescription be ready?

We require 5 working days to have your prescription ready.

The ‘working days’ are when the surgery is open (Monday – Friday).

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line
